Pittsburgh, Pa. (Feb. 25, 2016) – Sessions help participants plan for future. South Hills Interfaith Movement (SHIM), with Temple Emanuel of the South Hills, Beth El Congregation, and generous funding from South Hills Jewish Pittsburgh, presents ‘Writing Your Life’s Next Chapter’ Workshop Series. The new four-part work session will challenge the community to turn their hopes and dreams into reality with a workable, organized plan for their futures.
“Providing our neighbors with the tools and skills they need to be successful is important to SHIM and our community partners, such as Temple Emanuel and Beth El,” said James Guffey, executive director, SHIM. “South Hills Jewish Pittsburgh’s donation has allowed us to plan this workshop and provide individuals with creative thinking opportunities and self-assessment exercises that will ultimately help them create a vision for a thriving future.”
Beginning at the end of March and running through mid-April, each session will encourage participants to choose a focus, – professional, personal, volunteerism, marriage, parenting, education, social, emotional – look critically at each facet’s goal, and learn a process to reach success in all aspects of life. Workshop sessions include:
- Finding Your Sweet Spot: attendees will begin reflecting on their desired achievements.
- Setting Up for Success: participants will develop mission statements and a plan for success.
- Pump It Up: the group will re-focus inward to, once again, assess their strengths in order to take the first steps toward their action plans.
- Getting Connected: the series wraps up by combining plans and strengths to create a launch to action that is tailored to each person’s needs.
The series is open to everyone in the community. After completing the course, participants will be guided to additional resources, based on their chosen focus. This includes the Career Development Center at Jewish Family & Children’s Service of Pittsburgh, the Center for Women at the National Council of Jewish Women, and other SHIM partners.
The ‘Writing Your Life’s Next Chapter’ Workshop Series will take place at Temple Emanuel, 9:30-11 a.m., March 24, 31 and April 7, 14; and Beth El Congregation, 7-8:30 p.m., March 21, 28 and April 4, 11. For more information, please visit SHIM’s website at www.shimcares.org.
South Hills Interfaith Movement (SHIM) is a human services organization dedicated to improving the lives of people in need across the South Hills. This includes working to reduce the devastating effects of suburban poverty among the working poor, unemployed, families, single parents, senior citizens, women, and the high concentration of refugee families in its service area. SHIM works to identify the most critical needs across the South Hills, then develops and implements effective solutions. SHIM aims to empower individuals and families to achieve stability and self-sufficiency by offering short-term help with basic needs (food, clothing, utilities) and longer-term support (employment, financial planning, youth programs, family support) to help people build and sustain promising futures.
