Food Pantry Client Bobby with SHIM Volunteer Lynne
This is Bobby. He recently moved to Bethel Park with his three dogs. He chose the South Hills because it’s safe, friendly, and convenient. Unfortunately, Bobby struggled to keep up with the high cost of rent, food, and gas. He didn’t know anyone and was afraid to ask for help.
“You work so hard as a human being, to get to a certain point. When things don’t go your way, it’s so hard to ask for help.” -Bobby
Even with a job, Bobby knew he needed a little help getting enough food each month.
Bobby found SHIM when he drove by the long lines at our Bethel Park facility. He looked us up and was happy to learn that we operate three food pantries to help people just like him.
“Prices are astronomically high. Without SHIM’s food pantry I would have extra costs. It helps a single person like me budget.” -Bobby
Because of people like you, Bobby (and his dogs) have a place to turn when they’re struggling to make ends meet.
“Volunteering at SHIM’s food pantry has opened my eyes to the fact that food insecurity can happen to anyone at any time. In addition to helping clients select food for their families, I enjoy making them feel welcome by talking with them and offering words of comfort or encouragement when needed.” -Lynne, SHIM volunteer
