Here in the South Hills, we’ve learned that there’s only one thing bigger than the suffering of our neighbors during this pandemic: our collective spirit to help.
When our community was hungry, you worked to feed them. When children faced difficulties learning, you provided support. When families struggled with rent, utilities and the other effects of COVID-19-related job losses, you were here.
That’s the power of neighbors helping neighbors. And now, we work to rebuild, with SHIM leading the charge.

Our work to heal and rebuild the community is ongoing. This is why we set out to Do More Good than ever before in October 2018 with the goal of raising millions of additional dollars to support critical improvements to our programs, infrastructure and staff to address the growing needs in our community. The good news? We’ve made so much progress, raising $6.8 million, thanks to so many in our community. This may already include you, if you generously supported all of our extra work and activities helping our community through the pandemic. We are grateful for your investment in your community.

Doing More Good
Thanks to your generosity, we are strengthening infrastructure, fortifying existing best-practice programs, and creating a responsive model of service delivery/programs allowing SHIM to meet the emerging needs of our South Hills neighbors well into the future.
Strengthening Infrastructure
From upgrading our vehicle fleet to paving our parking lots, strengthening SHIM’s infrastructure strengthens our programs.
Supporting and Strengthening Key Services
Through food pantries, community gardens, volunteer programs, early childhood learning, middle- and high-school mentoring, direct assistance, and service coordination, SHIM reduces the effects of suburban poverty and in turn strengthens our community.
Enhancing Capacity Building
SHIM understands the importance of investing in people – both neighbors in need and staff and volunteers who work diligently to provide top-notch programs and services. SHIM is committed to staff development and training, creating a culture of ongoing innovation.
Supporting Long-Term Sustainability and Developing a Comprehensive Service Delivery Model
