Jack was a hardworking student studying for his X-ray board exam and looking for a good job in healthcare when the COVID-19 pandemic began. When everything shut down, he was unable to attend classes and complete his certifications. As he struggled to meet his basic needs and keep up with his bills, Jack contacted SHIM for assistance. SHIM’s service coordinator listened respectfully and connected him to various resources in the community. He accessed SHIM’s basic needs assistance and financial aid to help with his bills while waiting to return to his training program. Jack continued to connect with potential employers and was able to maintain his ability to get to work and school once they resumed. Since receiving help from SHIM, Jack has been able to keep up with his finances and has completed his education and training program! He is hopeful that he will secure a job in a field where he excels.
