The Almanac – South Hills Interfaith Movement’s upcoming fundraising event, Celebrate the South Hills with SHIM @home, is another opportunity to do more good.

The virtual event will be held at 7 p.m. June 17 to recognize frontline workers, share the stories of neighbors whose lives have been changed through SHIM’s work and showcase how the community banded together through some of the toughest times we’ve seen.

The event will showcase stories of neighbors who have made an impact in the South Hills and are engaged with SHIM, such as longtime pantry volunteer Paul Kraus, who helps with food deliveries at SHIM pantries every week.

Those deliveries, along with SHIM resources like its Early Childhood Program, help families like those of former refugees Adila and daughter Mirnela get back on their feet. Adila is now paying it forward as an afterschool teacher for ECP.

Proceeds from the event will go towards SHIM’s Do More Good campaign to support critical improvements to the nonprofit’s programs, infrastructure and staff to address the growing needs in the local community.

Celebrate the South Hills with SHIM @home is sponsored by Gateway Health; Brentwood Bank; Dollar Bank; Julia James Salon; Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield & Allegheny Health Network; UPMC and UPMC Health Plan; St. Clair Health; Sara, Will and Ben Dawes; Tom and Lynne VanHimbergen; Eat’n Park Hospitality Group; Eckenrode Real Estate; PNC Financial Services Group; Rycon Construction Inc.; Blender Inc.; Joe and Lynn Smith; and more.

The mission of South Hills Interfaith Movement is to mobilize community resources and implement sustainable programs that compassionately help neighbors meet basic needs, achieve self-sufficiency and build community. For more information, visit shimcares.org.
